Calgary
was another busy day! We visited the
Heritage Park Historical Village, National Brewery, and the Olympic
Centre.
Heritage Park took us all the
way from the time of the First Peoples through to the early 1900’s. There were costumed characters in all the
different buildings and shops ready to tell you about what was going on during
their time in the western Canadian areas.
We talked with many of the people.
Joy and I particularly liked talking to the lady who was a member of the
Blackfeet tribe. We had seen a lot of
intricately beaded vests and shirts at the Russell Museum and wanted to talk
more about them. The bead work she
showed us represented the Blackfeet peoples.
She told us each tribe had a different pattern for their bead work. They got the beads from the white men that
came and traded with them. We had
wondered if they had made them somehow.
The park also had a gasoline alley.
We got pics of Bob’s dear old Texaco-Tech!
While
Don and Joy went up in the Calgary Tower we sat at the base and looked up!
The
National Brewery was actually a restaurant and bar with 72 beers on tap. Sharon enjoyed a Pimm’s cup! It had been a long time and it was very
good!! Their fish tacos were served with a whole fish fillet! Very different and very good.
On our way back to the campsite at Calaway Park Campground, we stopped by the Calgary Olympic Centre. Remember them?? Joy and I had fun hamming it up on the bobsled!
