6-20-2013 Our last day in Skagway

After working on the blog for a while, today was our laundry day after a great lunch of Halibut & chips, and crab cake melt sandwich.

We also went to the melodrama/play in Skagway, “The Days of ’98 Show with Soapy Smith.”    I guess we really hadn’t explained that Skagway was one of the ports through which many of the stampeders came trying to make their way to the gold fields in the Klondick.   Skagway was a rip roaring, wild place back then.  Today, the story of Skagway’s most notorious outlaw and con man, Soapy Smith is a fun hour of music and song, just Sharon’s kind of show.

Remember yesterday we mentioned that people were taking pictures of the motorhomes?  Well today when we were downtown, they were taking picture of our car!!   Who takes a picture of a Chevy Equinox?  Must be the Texas license plate!!!  lolol  We think a ship coming up the street is a lot more interesting!

Our last day in Skagway and then off to Destruction Bay (doesn’t that sound exciting) on Friday. We considered going to Haines AK. Which is 15 miles by ferry and 359 miles by car. But we decided maybe the next trip. We could take the RVs on the ferry to Haines and take a different route to Haines Junction, but we will stay on the original course. Our plans have us arriving into Fairbanks on Sunday evening. The next leg is 710 miles from Skagway to Fairbanks.  Remember that hill we had to go down getting into Skagway?  Well we have to climb back out of here somehow. We will let the girls drive the cars up and not tow them behind the RVs. That way we will have documented evidence if we do not make it back up the hill. As we roll backwards with the curtains blowing out the windows headed over the cliff the girls will have a video of the epic.  ENJOY!!!!!

Sharon & rhubarb, just because she likes it.
