6-19-2013 A Lazy day in Skagway

Don & Joy left this morning for a side trip to Glacier National Park.  We had traveled through there on our cruise back in ’09, so decided to stay in Skagway.  Sharon woke up all congested so took a Benadryl and went back to bed.  She didn’t wake up til 1:30 in the afternoon when Bob came to check on her!!!!  Must have really needed the rest.

Oh, by the way, the cruise ships arrive about 5:45 am and the train to White Pass leaves about 8 am. They both blast the horns to let you know that they are arriving or leaving.  And, since we are parked right by where the cruise ships come in, we get to see all the big ships and lots of tourists with their bags of t-shirt treasures.  Some have even taken pictures of our motorhomes??  Are we such an attraction?

Skagway is a town of about 800 in the winter and over 800,000 in the summer. There are 3 to 4 cruise ships per day here. There are about 30,000 visitors that come by other means than cruise ships. When you do the math you have about 7 to 10,000 people that arrive by ship every day.  Their summer lasts about 100 days on a good summer.
